Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
Dr. Jafari grew up like any kid wanting to be able to help people when he was older. While becoming a superhero ended up being out of the question, Dr. Jafari shadowed his childhood dentists throughout grade school and college, learning all about X-rays, dental instruments, and the importance of dentistry from a young age—and in a fun way! Being able to see them change the lives of others and helping them feel better through a healthy new smile was a calling he wanted to be a part of.
Where Did You
Study Dentistry?
Dr. Jafari graduated from Indiana University School of Dentistry in Indianapolis, Indiana. Established in 1879, it is one of the oldest dental schools in continuous existence in the U.S. and has a longstanding tradition of comprehensive curriculum. This includes both strong academic and clinical training, as well as a firm emphasis on research (such as the invention of the first fluoridated toothpaste which is now Crest!).
Dr. Jafari then completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, which is consistently ranked as one of the top dental schools in the world. During this residency, he primarily conducted clinical training at the Kernersville VA Medical Center, serving as Chief Resident and providing much-needed care and compassion to our nation’s military veterans. He was able to gain a vast amount of experience in caring for medically complex patients while becoming proficient in various procedures utilizing both digital and traditional methods. These include everything from root canals to porcelain veneers to implant dentistry, as well as the fabrication of sleep apnea appliances. Reinforcing these unique learning experiences with continuing education courses every year allows Dr. Jafari to stay up to date with the newest dental equipment and materials, providing the best for his patients.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Dr. Jafari lives in Great Falls and he’s fortunate that his entire immediate family lives in the DMV. In his free time, he enjoys cooking, baking, hiking, bouldering, watching sports, playing pickleball, skiing, traveling to new places when possible, and spending time with his family and their beloved dog, Lulu. He’s also an avid reader and has even had a mini library since he was a kid. He often gets lost reading a cascade of Wikipedia articles nearly every night, as he loves taking in information, particularly world history.
